Experience Olive and Adam’s Long-Awaited First Kiss in ‘The Love Hypothesis’ Teaser Trailer

The Love Hypothesis trailer has landed, making science appear more captivating than ever!

During the inaugural Obsessed Fest hosted by Prime Video, stars Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman took the stage together to unveil the debut trailer for their college-themed romantic comedy. This film adapts Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel.

The Love Hypothesis centers around the character Olive, played by Reinhart, a diligent Ph.D. candidate, navigating the academic world. Her life takes a twist when she learns her best friend Ahn, portrayed by Rachel Marsh, has feelings for Jeremy, Nicholas Duvernay’s character, who also happens to be Olive’s crush. In a bid to convince everyone, including herself, that she’s over Jeremy, Olive impulsively kisses her professor, Adam Carlsen—played by Bateman—setting off a faux relationship. What begins as an arrangement with clear rules soon spirals into chaos as genuine emotions develop between Olive and Adam.

The one-minute trailer from Prime Video is cleverly packaged as a vintage scientific instructional video. With the nostalgic hum of film rolling in the background, the overlaying narrative describes chemical reactions, culminating in Reinhart’s character’s bold move to plant a kiss on Adam. This act serves to mislead Ahn, leading to an awkward yet charming apology to the campus’s so-called “Dr. Evil.”

Still, Olive’s charade continues in an effort to convince her friend of the authenticity of her romance with Carlsen, the disliked professor. In a snippet from the trailer, Olive reassures Ahn by saying, “I’m seeing someone.” Ahn’s puzzled response, “You mean like a therapist?” is met with Olive’s clarification, “No, like a human man.”

Later in the trailer, things heat up as Adam has a moment of his own where he leans in to kiss Olive, telling her that he’s doing it as her friends are watching from afar. Yeah, that’s right, Prime Video gave two kisses in a one-minute teaser trailer… you’re welcome!

The teaser also touches on the fan-favorite “bridal lift” scene from the book, which the duo teased back in 2025 when Reinhart took part in the “All Night” trend on TikTok, showing Bateman pick her up with one arm. The video has amassed 11.9 million likes and has only ramped up the excitement for the project.

The Prime Video film is written by Sarah Rothschild and directed by Set It Up director Claire Scanlon. The movie also stars Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan.

The Love Hypothesis releases on Prime Video on September 23.
