This morning brought somber news as actor Patrick Muldoon, known for his roles on Melrose Place and Days of Our Lives, passed away suddenly from a heart attack at the age of 57. Friends and fans alike are left in shock, including actress Denise Richards, who dated Muldoon in the late 1990s.
Richards and Muldoon first crossed paths on the set of Starship Troopers, sparking a romance that lasted until 2000. Despite parting ways romantically, the pair maintained a strong friendship over the years, affectionately referring to each other as “schweet babe” since their days on the film set. Their enduring bond was recently highlighted in a March 2025 episode of Denise Richards and Her Wild Things, where Richards reunited with Muldoon to star as his love interest in his music video for “Gray Again.”
Reflecting on their unique connection, Richards shared, “Our romantic relationship was a long time ago, but our friendship is deep.” She also revealed that her former marriage to Charlie Sheen complicated their friendship. “During my marriage to Charlie, we didn’t speak, which was difficult. But as the marriage ended, Pat became someone I frequently confided in,” she admitted.
Richards and Muldoon rekindled their friendship following her divorce from Sheen, with whom she has two daughters, Sami and Lola. Both daughters, now in their early twenties, accompanied their mother to DECIDER’s studio in March 2025 to promote Denise Richards and Her Wild Things. They expressed their fondness for Muldoon, with Sami stating, “Patrick is my favorite,” and Lola chiming in, “I was going to say Pat. I love Pat so much.”
“Patrick is my favorite,” Sami said, while Lola added, “I was gonna say Pat. I love Pat so much.”
Sami continued, “He’s like a 15-year-old boy who never grew up but did at the same time in the best way possible. He’s really funny. And I’ve said that to him.” Richards, for her part, added, “He’s been one of my best friends since I was a teenager. And he’s close to our families, close to my husband. But I think the girls don’t look at my famous friends as famous. They just look at them as mom’s friends.”
Muldoon’s appearance in the since-canceled Bravo series holds a sadder meaning today. Muldoon’s sister Shana Muldoon-Zappa told TMZ that her brother decided to take a shower after having a cup of coffee on Sunday morning (April 19), but when his girlfriend went to check on him, she found him unconscious on the bathroom floor. While paramedics attempted to revive him, there was ultimately nothing they could do.
