Washington — On Monday, Democratic Senator Mark Warner from Virginia shared the heartbreaking news that his daughter, Madison, has passed away at the age of 36 after enduring a prolonged struggle with juvenile diabetes and other health challenges.
“We are utterly devastated by the loss of our cherished daughter, Madison,” Warner and his wife, Lisa Collis, expressed in a heartfelt statement on social media. “Her presence brought immense joy and love into our lives, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.”
The family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from friends and family during this challenging time, while also requesting privacy as they work through their grief.
Warner, who has served in the Senate since 2009 following his tenure as Virginia’s governor, resides in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife. The couple also has two other daughters, Gillian and Eliza.
Throughout his time in the Senate, Warner has been a vocal advocate for diabetes research, drawing from his personal experience with a daughter affected by Type 1 diabetes. He has actively championed efforts to reduce insulin costs and supported legislation aimed at broadening access to diabetes care.
