Isaac Fayose Criticizes Nigeria’s Justice System: “Petty Thieves Punished While Billion-Dollar Crooks Rewarded

In a provocative video that ignited discussions across social media platforms, well-known influencer Isaac Fayose voiced his strong criticism of corruption and what he sees as an uneven justice system in Nigeria.

Fayose’s video sparked conversation by alleging a stark contrast in how justice is meted out between those accused of minor thefts and individuals suspected of embezzling large amounts of public money. He argued that while the former often face brutal street justice, the latter are paradoxically rewarded with high-status roles.

Nigeria is the only country where stealing a small item, like bread, Maggi, or rice, can result in immediate and lethal street justice,” he lamented.

Fayose highlighted the frequent instances where alleged minor thieves become victims of vigilante mobs, deprived of the chance to defend themselves in a court of law.

In contrast, those who embezzle billions often gain celebrity status, gracing the front pages of newspapers,” he pointed out.

Fayose further claimed that influential individuals accused of large-scale corruption are often treated differently.

They will now look at you and say, ‘Ah, this guy is a good thief, he’s a big thief.’ They will now give you a better, juicy appointment where you can even carry more,” he said sarcastically.

The social commentator also criticised Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts, alleging that enforcement agencies focus more on low-profile offenders than politically exposed persons.

“If you are still sitting down thinking this country will develop, you are deceiving yourself because of corruption,” he stated.

He also alleged that anti-corruption agencies pay more attention to internet fraud suspects than public officials accused of corruption, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim.

In a sarcastic conclusion, Fayose said, “Whatever you do, try not to be poor, and try not to steal small. Steal big so you can make the headlines and get a juicy position after. God bless Nigeria.”
