‘Married at First Sight’ alum Jamie Otis said she was hurt when a fellow cast member “publicly bash[ed]” her on national TV.
Jamie Otis is speaking up about her falling out with fellow Married at First Sight alum Cortney Hendrix.
Jamie and Cortney both appeared on the first season of the long-running reality show back in 2014. The two remained friendly after filming wrapped, but their relationship has cooled. In March, Cortney appeared on the Married at First Sight: Secrets Revealed special, where she revealed that it had been “a long time” since she’d talked to The Bachelor alum and explained that they had fallen out because of their different approaches to parenting. Specifically, Cortney wasn’t a fan of the way Jamie used her kids for content on her social media channels.
Now, months later, Jamie is sharing her side of the story.
“I never addressed this publicly bc I was embarrassed…an ex cast-mate from MAFS (who I thought was a friend??) went on A Married At First Sight special and said ‘Jamie doesn’t know this but…’ and went on to publicly bash me on national television…,” she wrote in an October 8 post on Instagram.
The mom of four went on to say that the “hate” she received on social media was exhausting and “so toxic.”
“I used to cry and cry and cry. I didn’t want anyone seeing me crying about it though so I haven’t talked about any of this publicly. I didn’t want any of them to think they ‘won.’ I didn’t want to feel defeated. And them seeing me hurt felt like they won. … I talked to my therapist about it. She told me these are all signs of jealousy and to try to ignore it. Honestly, it’s easier said than done.”
Cortney Hendrix says there’s no feud with Jamie Otis
Jamie cast herself as the victim in her post, but Cortney says that’s BS. On her Instagram, she shared a screenshot of a text she’d just sent to Jamie saying that she was sorry she was hurt but that she stood by her belief that kids are not content.
“Prior to the this text I sent this morning- the last communication I had with Jamie was Feb 2023,” she captioned the October 9 post. “This is not a feud. Bc I have no negative feelings. Simply a response now that Jamie has made multiple videos saying I’m bullying her. 6.5 months later after this episode aired. I told the world on tv that we weren’t friends anymore and we weren’t bc I didn’t like what you put on the internet about your children.”
“The clip is on the internet – you can see exactly what I did and did not say,” she added. “Just because someone doesn’t like something doesn’t equal bullying.”
During her appearance on the MAFS special, Cortney answered a question about her about her friendship with her fellow season 1 alum.
“It’s been a long time since we talked,” Cortney said. “[We’re] just in different places … I do not follow them anymore,” she said, referring Jamie and her husband Doug Hehner. “She had me on mute … I was messaging her and texting her and she didn’t text me back. So I was like, ‘You know what, this is not serving me.’”
“I’m trying to say this in a nice way without, like, mom-shaming,” Cortney added. “Because I don’t believe that kids are content. But it’s not a feud. It’s not tea. She does not know that I feel this way because I’ve never expressed it.”
