It looks like the Today crew were not fans of the advice Jenna Bush Hager gave a viewer during Tuesday’s (April 16) broadcast.
She and Hoda Kotb were addressing viewers’ “social dilemmas” during a segment on the broadcast when Bush Hager was unexpectedly booed by the stage crew.
One question read, “I agreed to spend a weekend this summer this my family. Now I just found out that Missy Elliot is performing in my city one night only (it’s her first headlining tour)! Can I gracefully back out?”
Bush Hager suggested, “I think you’re still in the statute of limitations where things can be changed.”
Kotb agreed that it was a can’t-miss event. “Yes, because even if you rented the house, you’ve got to see Missy Elliot,” she said.
Bush Hager added, “And if you can’t, then you may have to go be with your family. And, by the way, in a hundred years, or however long we’re laying on our deathbeds, we’ll be happy that we spent some time with our family. And you can always see Missy on her next tour.”
Someone from behind the camera appeared to boo at the suggestion, drawing an annoyed reaction from Bush Hager.
“Why are they booing me?! They’re supposed to be on my team!” she said.
Kotb also didn’t appear to be a fan of her advice. “God, you’re just guilt-ridden, making everyone feel terrible,” she told Bush Hager.
This isn’t the first time the co-hosts have been booed on Today.
“This is very important,” Bush Hager said on an episode last year, before sharing a “PSA” with their viewers: “We can stretch summer into September.” She and Kotb were urging their viewers to continue enjoying the summer for just a bit longer, even as they entered September.
They paused for applause, but instead they were met with crickets and some booing from the stage crew, much to their surprise.
“Why would anyone boo [us]?” Kotb asked.
It looks like the Today stage crew wasn’t exactly here for it that time. “We want fall!” someone yelled from behind the camera. “Yay, fall!”
Today with Hoda & Jenna airs on weekdays at 10 a.m. ET on NBC.
