Jimmy Kimmel has voiced his disapproval of Spencer Pratt‘s aspirations to become the next mayor of Los Angeles.
During the broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, May 27, Kimmel, 58, dedicated a significant portion of his monologue to critique Pratt’s foray into politics. He drew comparisons to President Donald Trump, who similarly transitioned from reality TV to a political role.
Pratt joined the mayoral race, challenging the sitting Mayor Karen Bass, following the devastating 2025 California wildfires, which claimed his Pacific Palisades residence. He and his wife Heidi Montag, known for their roles on The Hills, were among those affected.
On the same Wednesday, Kimmel remarked that while Pratt, 42, has every reason to be upset about losing his home, this personal tragedy doesn’t necessarily make him a suitable candidate for political office.
Spencer Pratt is shifting his focus from reality television to the political arena. A year has passed since a wildfire destroyed his family’s home in Pacific Palisades, California, and now Pratt has declared his candidacy for the mayor of Los Angeles. He criticized the current state of affairs, stating, “The system in Los Angeles isn’t merely struggling; it’s fundamentally broken.”
“Since he’s a moderately famous person, he gets attention. He’s on the news. He’s on social media. For the first time in his life, people are agreeing with what he has to say. It’s hard not to agree with what he has to say,” the comedian said. “He’s angry about the same problems a lot of people here are angry about. Does he have solutions to those problems? No. But at least he’s acknowledging that they are problems.”
Kimmel continued, “So, then this angry reality star — who grew up wealthy and popular and is not very wealthy or popular anymore — really starts to enjoy the attention. He starts to think, ‘I should be mayor,’ which is a statement that should make everyone laugh. But not everyone is laughing. Not everyone sees this as a joke. Right now, if you believe the polls, 22% of them are going, ‘You know what? You should be mayor.’”
Kimmel likened Pratt’s desire to run for office to Trump’s political aspirations when he announced he was running for president in 2015.

“You think this guy wants to sit through city council meetings all day talking about zoning? No, he wants to be a star again,” the late night host alleged. “And guess what? It’s working. He’s everywhere. People show up to see him speak. He’s doing interviews. He’s making deals for a new reality show. It’s exactly what Donald Trump did.”
Kimmel claimed that “Donald Trump ran for president because his TV show was going to get canceled and he wanted to be relevant again,” referring to former NBC reality show The Apprentice.
“Now, the difference between Donald Trump and this guy is Donald Trump actually had a job before he was on a reality show,” he quipped. “He wasn’t good at the job. He got all the money for it from his dad. The only thing he was good at was promoting himself, and it turned out that was enough. And as a result, we are now going to have to spend the next three decades digging out of this giant hole he put us in.”

Kimmel continued, “But this hole now has given birth to Spencer Pratt, who is running for mayor. Another narcissist looking for attention. Are we really going to risk repeating that mistake with Trump in L.A. of all places? Mayor should not be your first job. The mayor of L.A. is in charge of a $14 billion annual budget. Spencer Pratt is not the person who should be in charge of [it].”
Kimmel noted that Pratt and Montag, 39, have previously revealed how they blew through $10 million on extravagant purchases, including a crystal collection Pratt estimated was worth $1 million.
“That’s the guy 22% of you want to be mayor of Los Angeles when the Olympics come to town. You gotta be kidding me with this?” Kimmel said. “Spencer Pratt, right now, his job is selling healing crystals on a website called prattdaddy.com. That alone should be disqualifying.”
“So if you don’t want to vote for Karen Bass on June 2nd, I get it,” he said, referring to the primary to determine the two candidates for L.A. mayor, adding, “But you better find somebody else to vote for and preferably someone who isn’t wasting our time and money to get himself back on television.”
