John Oliver Thrills Fans with Memorable Guest Spot on ABC’s ‘General Hospital

Oliver scored his coveted role, complete with the signature elements of soap drama—intense close-ups, quirky dialogue, and even a dramatic slap!

In a chat with TV Insider, executive producer Frank Valentini shared his enthusiasm about Oliver joining the cast, explaining, “My reaction was, ‘Let’s go for it,’” after realizing how passionate Oliver was about soap operas.

Valentini further explained that upon learning of Oliver’s request, it blended perfectly with their needs: “Once I saw it, I said, ‘Oh, we gotta make this happen,’ and everyone was thrilled. It was perfect timing as we needed someone to portray Z, the head of the WSB.”

Oliver plays Z, a World Security Bureau (WSB) director. Badass! The WSB is a shadowy spy agency that has popped up in General Hospital storylines since 1980.

In an official press release from ABC, Oliver said, “General Hospital was everything I hoped it would be. It’s a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show.”
