There’s only one guy out there for me, but you are not him! That was the lesson the high school girls in John Tucker Must Die tried to teach the most popular guy in school after finding out he was dating three of them at the same time.
In the movie, which hit theaters in July 2006, followed Heather (Ashanti), Beth (Sophia Bush) and Carrie (Arielle Kebbel) as they attempted to bring down John (Jesse Metcalfe). To do so, they convinced new girl Kate (Brittany Snow) to get him to fall in love with her, then break his heart. That way, he would know how it feels.
The flick, which features a stellar supporting cast including Jenny McCarthy, Taylor Kitsch and Penn Badgley, became a fan favorite from the moment it hit theaters. Metcalfe, who has gone on to land dozens of roles, still gets fans coming up to him nearly 15 years later.
“I didn’t think really much of the movie when I was shooting it, and the fact that it’s kind of become a little bit of a teen comedy cult classic is awesome,” he told Us in October 2020. “It’s been passed down, maybe from, like, older brothers and sisters to their younger siblings. I think it’s super cool. People still think it’s funny! It is funny. I’m flattered.”
The Pitch Perfect actress also opened up to Us about filming the movie, sharing that she developed quite a friendship with her costars.
“The best prank that we played on Jesse, which didn’t go over well at the time, is that we printed out a bunch of shirtless pictures of him that were in magazines and put them all on set,” Snow told Us exclusively in 2016 when the movie celebrated its 10-year anniversary. “He was so embarrassed and not happy with us, but we thought it was hilarious. But he handled it like a champ. I’m sure he wanted to kill us secretly.”

Jesse Metcalfe
After making his film debut as John Tucker, Metcalfe landed multiple movie roles, but had the most success in TV, starring in Desperate Housewives, Chase and Dallas. In 2015, he starred in his first Hallmark movie, which led to many more. He starred as the lead in Chesapeake Shores, a Hallmark series that he also produced, from its debut in 2016 until choosing to exit in 2021. In 2020, he competed on season 29 of Dancing With the Stars. Metcalfe dated Cara Santana for 13 years, and the duo got engaged in 2016. They split in 2020, and he moved on with Corin Jamie-Lee Clark.

Brittany Snow
After starring in Guiding Light and American Dreams, Snow’s movie career took off with John Tucker Must Die. She went on to star in Hairspray, Prom Night, and three Pitch Perfect movies. She also had main roles in TV series including Ben and Kate, Full Circle, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Almost Family. She married Tyler Stanaland in March 2020, but announced their separation two and a half years later.

Sophia Bush
Bush is best known for her two major TV roles: Brooke Davis in One Tree Hill from 2003 to 2012 and Erin Lindsay in Chicago P.D. from 2013 to 2017. Additionally, she has starred in dozens of other projects and has taken on philanthropy work and activism. She launched the “Drama Queens” podcast with former OTH costars Bethany Joy Lenz and Hilarie Burton in 2021. Her romantic life has made headlines through the years, dating former costars James Lafferty, Austin Nichols and Jesse Lee Soffer. She was married to Chad Michael Murray for five months in 2005. In 2021, she got engaged got Grant Hughes.

Ashanti
Ashanti is best known for her hit music, releasing five studio albums between 2002 and 2014. Her acting career includes Coach Carter, Resident Evil: Extinction, A Christmas Winter Song and Army Wives. She and Nelly dated for 10 years from 2004 to 2014.

Arielle Kebbel

Penn Badgley
The other Tucker’s career definitely took off after the movie. One year later, he landed a leading role in Gossip Girl, then went on to appear in movies and TV shows, including Easy A, You and The Stepfather. His band, MOTHXR, released their first album in 2016. He briefly dated costar Blake Lively and actress Zoë Kravitz before marrying Domino Kirke in 2017. The couple welcomed their first child, a boy, in 2020.

Taylor Kitsch
The same year as John Tucker Must Die was released, Kitsch began starring in the hit show Friday Night Lights, a series that aired from 2006 to 2011. He went on to appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, John Carter and Savages. On the TV front, he starred in True Detective, The Normal Heart and Waco.

Jenny McCarthy
McCarthy was well known as an actress, host and model when she starred in the rom-com. In 2010, she became a cohost on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, and later hosted Love in the Wild and The Jenny McCarthy Show. She cohosted The View for a year in 2013. In 2019, she became a panelist on Fox’s The Masked Singer. McCarthy dated Jim Carrey from 2005 to 2010. She married Donnie Wahlberg in 2014. McCarthy has one son, Evan, from a previous relationship, who was born in 2002 and diagnosed with autism in 2005.
