For a fashion designer and A-list star with access to some of the world’s most sought-after stylists, Katie Holmes has not always had the easiest time landing on a signature look.
That appeared to change on Tuesday, when the 35-year-old mother of one arrived at a Tiffany event channeling polished 1960s glamour, with an outfit that looked as if it could have stepped straight out of the world of Mad Men.
The retro-inspired choice suited her beautifully. The former Dawson’s Creek star looked fresher, more refined and, yes, noticeably cooler than she has in years.
Modish: Katie Holmes looked sensational in a ’60s-inspired shift dress and pumps at the Tiffany & Blue Book Celebration in New York.
Holmes wore a fluid navy shift dress with a cream underlay, a sleek silhouette that flattered her classic figure while giving the look an elegant, modern finish.
Her slim legs looked great in the versatile pointed pumps that became popular in the decade that swung, and remain so today.
Katie kept her retro theme strong with a chignon swept forward into a half fringe.
Makeup and jewellery was kept to a minimum, in the former’s case the emphasis was on pretty pink and kohled eyes.

Confident: Katie knew she’d scored a hit
Key to achieving this was her move to New York, ostensibly to be nearer Broadway but also, it seems, so she can lose herself in the masses of Manhattan.

She certainly seems to enjoy the bustle, which is the antithesis of the deserted yet lushly manicured sidewalks of Beverly Hills where she lived with the 51-year-old megastar.
In Holmes’ Hollywood, getting around would involve nothing more liberating than a blacked out Escalade or pedalling on the spot at Soul Cycle.

Penned by Richard LaGravenese the untitled New York set project ‘revolves around the love and rivalry between two equally matched, powerful socialites, Philip Fitzgerald Julien (Rufus Sewell) and Margot Worth Cole, who play out their obsessive attraction and seduction of each other through their manipulation of others’.
Katie’s character is also a powerful player in the well-to-do world.
Named Ann, Katie’s character along with her with her husband, runs a philanthropic foundation that helps bring clean water to African villages.
Business as usual: Tom is still working the megastar rounds, here in London he signs autographs before accepting Lifetime Achievement at the Empire Film Awards
