Lauren Sánchez Bezos shed two pounds in preparation for the Met Gala, thanks to a rigorous “Fireman Workout.”
Lauren Sánchez Bezos made a statement with her nod to a historical controversy.
For the 2026 Met Gala themed “Fashion Is Art,” the former broadcaster collaborated with Schiaparelli designer Daniel Roseberry to create an ensemble inspired by John Singer Sargent’s infamous 1883 painting “Madame X.” The artwork caused a stir by depicting socialite Madame Pierre Gautreau with a jeweled strap slipping off her shoulder, prompting Sargent to later adjust the painting to show the strap in place.
This particular element resonated with Sánchez Bezos, who shared with Vogue her fascination with how “a seemingly small detail, like the fallen jeweled strap, once evoked such a strong public outcry.”
“Standing before it now, you see a striking woman. To me, the painting illustrates how fashion and cultural norms evolve,” she explained at 56. “Today, a strap is just that, but when Sargent painted ‘Madame X,’ it was seen as scandalous.”
