Who Is the Sharp-Tongued Scottish Voice Behind Love Island?
Iain Stirling has become one of the most recognizable voices in reality TV, serving as the narrator for both Love Island UK and Love Island USA. But when the shows are in production, the Scottish comedian’s day is far more structured than fans might imagine.
Speaking with TODAY in 2024, Stirling explained that his workday often begins around noon in the U.K., when he signs on for Love Island UK. “By that point, the show’s all but finished,” he said, noting that he and the team typically spend two or three hours writing before wrapping around 4 or 4:30 p.m. After that, his routine turns decidedly domestic: dinner for his child, bath time and bedtime. “I’d love for it to be more rock ‘n’ roll than that, but that was my life,” he joked. Later, after eating, he logs back on around 8:30 p.m. for Love Island USA—which, because of the Fiji filming schedule, is still very early on location.
Executive producer Parrish told The Wrap that Stirling follows the action remotely, watching an early cut from home via Zoom. From there, he and the writing team look for the comic beats, awkward moments and story callbacks that make his Love Island narration so distinct, with Stirling recording the lines at home on his own microphone.

Once recorded, Stirling’s voiceover is worked into the episode before it heads to Peacock’s legal and standards department. That review can still lead to notes, meaning the team may occasionally have to make quick edits right before the episode is finalized.
“We’d try to finish by about 12 or 1 in the morning, then I’d stay up till half to 3 — which is still not the end of the show for the U.S.,” Stirling told TODAY. “In a dream world, I’d be staying up ‘til like, 5, 6, in the morning, but that would basically involve me never sleeping.”
Proof that the franchise can produce a forever bond: Stirling married former Love Island UK host Laura Whitmore in 2020 and they welcomed a daughter in March 2021.
