Luke Grimes Teases ‘Fun, Necessary’ Kayce and Beth Reunion in ‘Dutton Ranch’ Crossover

Fans hoping for a collision between Taylor Sheridan’s two Yellowstone sequel series, Marshals and Dutton Ranch, should not give up hope just yet.

The strikingly parallel Season 1 endings of both shows have fueled calls for a major Season 2 crossover, potentially bringing Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) together in Texas to rescue Tate (Brecken Merrill) and Carter (Finn Little).

While Marshals returns to CBS on October 4, Grimes has made clear that viewers should not expect Beth and Rip to show up during the upcoming season. Still, with Dutton Ranch projected to begin filming its second season in 2027, the door remains open for Kayce to cross over into the companion series. Grimes’ recent remarks about reuniting the surviving Dutton siblings have only added to that anticipation.

“It’s not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point. Beth’s basically Kayce’s only living family member other than Tate. It would make sense that down the line we’d at least talk,” Grimes told TV Insider. “[Kelly and I have] texted about it back and forth a lot, talked about how it’d be fun and necessary for our story arcs, however they’re going to end.”

His hopeful outlook follows similar comments from Reilly and Hauser, who told TV Insider just months earlier that they would welcome another chance to share the screen with their former Yellowstone co-star.

“What I will say is I’d love to work with Luke. We saw him in New York for the Upfronts, Kelly and I both, and I just love him, man. I miss him,” Hauser said. Reilly quickly agreed: “I miss him too.”

“I love people that we’ve worked with over the years in Yellowstone, but the fact that he’s on his show and we’re on this show, if there’s a way to somewhere down the road do something special where he comes and visits us or if we go to Montana, great,” Hauser continued.

“Go find our sons,” Reilly added. “…I think Beth misses her brother, so I would love that to happen. And we were all very close. Wes Bentley, who played Jamie, Kelsey [Asbille], who played Monica Dutton]. We were a family, and we miss them very much. So the more we can get back in, that’s what we’re fighting for, Cole and I. Where we get our wishes, we would love to have as many back in our world.”

Of course, not every familiar face would be available for a potential Yellowstone crossover. Jamie, Beth and Kayce’s brother, exited the story in the original series finale, while Kayce’s wife Monica was revealed to have died from cancer in the Marshals Season 1 premiere. Then again, Sheridan has never been shy about using flashbacks. Other franchise favorites could still enter the mix, including Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty, who have already returned as their characters in Marshals.

For now, viewers will have to wait to see what Sheridan has planned for the expanding Yellowstone universe. Reilly recently told The Dallas Morning News that Sheridan is expected to take a more hands-on role in Dutton Ranch Season 2: “We talk to him now about what the next season could be, and he wants to be involved.” With that in mind, a landmark Marshals and Dutton Ranch crossover may be closer to reality than fans think.
