Any mother knows that when you have children, self-care tends to take a backseat for a few years. In a new interview with Essence Magazine, actress and entrepreneur, Nicole Ari Parker is talking balancing self-care and motherhood, in addition to how it has inspired a new partnership.

“I think any mom will tell you the different phases of their children’s lives, self-care is secondary especially when they’re little,” Parker said. “And my kids are teenagers now, so I have a little more time for makeup.”

“I also think that self-care changes when you become a parent and it’s not always pampering, it’s sometimes just rest, meditation, prayer, those kinds of things you need in your toolbox. And they become a luxury too. So for me, carving out that time to just sit and pray and write and think, that’s pampering, that’s self-care,” the mother-of-two continued.

Parker has even shared important self-care tips with her 19-year-old daughter, Sophie.

“… I really knew as a young woman that I wanted her to have self-care in her life and to carve out that time in the morning before class and get yourself together, get the kind of shower you want, the lotion you want, make your bed, feel good about yourself, begin the day loving yourself. And so hopefully she’s doing that. I mean, I know she’s staying up late craving for an exam every now and then, but she’s not ashy.”

Going beyond sharing self-care tips with her college freshman, Parker also talked about how her self-care mission has helped to form a new partnership with Jergens Skincare, to encourage more Black moms to embark on their own self-care routines.

Parker is partnering with Jergens ® Skincare to celebrate their new Mother’s Day Campaign, Mom-Sense.

As a part of Parker’s collaboration with the popular skincare line, the multi-hyphenated actress and entrepreneur partnered with well-known fashion jeweler Adina Eden to craft a special limited-edition bracelet. The bracelet is designed to capture the essence of Jergens’ Cherry Almond fragrance. The bracelet will be exclusively offered as a complimentary gift of orders $15 or more from the Jergens’ Original Scent Cherry Almond collection.
