The main storylines for the fourth Bridget Jones film Mad About the Boy have been revealed, according to a new report.

Fans of the films were delighted this month when the next instalment of the hugely popular rom com films was confirmed – with Renée Zellweger, 55, and Hugh Grant returning.

But given that at the end of author Helen Fielding’s second book Bridget’s husband Mark Darcy is killed off, the fourth film will now reportedly focus on her move into online dating and her dalliance with a much younger suitor.

And that handsome man in question will be played by no other than Netflix’s One Day star Leo Woodall, 27, – who will have a steamy new romance and plenty of snogs with Bridget as she moves on from her grief.

Despite the 28-year age gap Bridget’s new toyboy love interest will be Leo – who has also starred in The White Lotus – and whose character has not yet been named.

The start of the film will follow Bridget as a single mum trying to navigate a new world of social media and dating apps after Mark’s death.

A source told The Sun: ‘Bridget is going to be a real cougar in the new film and she’ll be seen starting a relationship with a much younger character played by Leo.

‘He was thrilled about landing the part and will have a major role as her love interest in Mad About The Boy.

‘Bridget is a single mum trying to navigate a new world of social media and dating apps after Mark’s death, so she’s definitely going to end up in a pickle.

‘Hugh Grant is back as Daniel Cleaver, so there will be a love triangle between Bridget’s older flame and this much younger new man.’

It comes after Huge confirmed some upsetting news for Bridget Jones fans as he opened up about the upcoming fourth movie.

The actor, 63, portrayed hunky lothario Daniel in the first two hit films, 2001′s Bridget Jones’s Diary and 2004′s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, alongside co-star Renee.

Hugh decided not to return for the 2016′s Bridget Jones’s Baby causing his character to be written out by being killed off in a plane crash, however a newspaper headline teased at the end that he was actually found alive.

The Notting Hill star has now revealed the new film, which is set to hit Peacock for Valentine’s Day in 2025, is going to be the ‘best one’ yet and has already moved him to ‘tears’.

He told ET: ‘I’ll tell you what, I think this script for the fourth Bridget is the best one of the four. And, in fact, one of the best scripts I have read for in a long time.’

Hugh went onto confirm that Colin’s character Mark, who was the father of Bridget Jones’ baby, won’t be making an appearance as his character has been killed off.

He continued: ‘It’s based on trying to bring up two children alone, and then [it’s] all mixed up in the Bridget Jones [style] comedy, so its very sad, as well as very funny. It has me in tears.’

The fourth film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, is based on the Helen’s book of the same name and keen readers will suspect that Mark dies early in the book.

The Wonka stars comments seem to confirm that Colin won’t be appearing in any major capacity as Mark and he was also not included in the cast list press release.

Hugh added: ‘It just suddenly sprang out of, you know, Helen writing another book. Hopefully, we’re not too ancient. I don’t do much now, I’ve just got a few scenes’.

The Mail On Sunday confirmed the movie will begin filming in May.

Emma Thompson – who played Doctor Rawlings in 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby is also back, with Chiwetel Ejiofor also set to star, per THR.

To Leslie director Michael Morris will helm the film – based on the 2013 novel of the same name, with the film’s script penned by author Fielding and Miramax co-financing the film.

Universal will release the film on Peacock on Valentine’s Day 2025 while internationally it will be released in theaters.

A movie source told The Mail On Sunday in February: ‘Bridget is back and is about to take over London. Filming is being mapped out already and all of the pre- production is in place.

‘There was some uncertainty about whether it would get off the ground, but the movie is coming.

‘Renee is excited about bringing Bridget back. She adores the character so much. Bridget Jones fever is expected to sweep across London this spring.’
