Indian actress and former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra, has opened up about the key principles she believes have strengthened her marriage to Nick Jonas, who is a decade her junior. Eight years into their union, these values continue to fortify their relationship.
During an event in New York, Priyanka emphasized the significance of mutual respect for their distinct cultures and a deep understanding of their differences in preserving a strong and healthy bond.
She pointed out that cultural differences could pose challenges if partners remain uncurious or unwilling to explore one another’s backgrounds.
Priyanka highlights respect and kindness
Nick Jonas’ dedication to embracing her Indian customs has been especially meaningful, Priyanka noted. The couple celebrated their marriage in India in 2018, with a grand, multi-day ceremony that beautifully blended both Hindu and Western wedding traditions.
The actress shared, “I didn’t know I could love him if he didn’t do that,” referring to Nick’s heartfelt acceptance of the rich culture and traditions of her native India.
The couple have since taken part in Indian festivals and traditional activities, while also building a family together. In 2022, they welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, through surrogacy.
Priyanka also praised Nick’s sincerity, saying his honest approach makes her feel comfortable being herself despite the pressures of life in the entertainment industry.
Nick Jonas sees Priyanka as a teammate
According to Priyanka, kindness and the way partners treat each other daily are just as important as romance in sustaining a marriage.
Nick Jonas has also previously described Priyanka as someone he quickly realised could be his long-term partner, viewing her not only as his wife but also as a teammate through both difficult and successful periods.
After eight years of marriage, the couple continue to raise their daughter while pursuing separate entertainment projects.
Their experience has renewed discussion about how respect, kindness and acceptance of cultural differences can help couples build lasting relationships.
