Taylor Swift’s fans are among the most dedicated in existence. They travel lengthy distances for her concerts, eagerly buy her merch, and ardently defend her online. Swift has faced varying points of criticism over the years, and her fans often have rebuttals at the ready. They shared comebacks for anyone who criticizes Swift’s vocal talent.

Taylor Swift fans share songs that showcase her vocals

For years, Swift has faced criticism for her singing voice. She does not belt like some of her contemporaries, and audio of some less-than-perfect performances has made the rounds on social media. Fans have shared the songs they think offer a rebuttal to the argument that she can’t sing. 

“I also think Taylor’s lower range is quite underrated and that her songs are deceptively difficult to sing,” one Reddit user wrote. “Like how does ‘Cruel Summer’ have notes that are both too high and too low for me to sing.”

Others pointed to songs like “Getaway Car,” in which she hits high notes. Others shared songs like “All Too Well” and “Carolina.” Many believed Swift’s strengths lie in her lower range.

“Do NOT show the songs with highest notes,” one person wrote. “Usually the problem is that they complain about the lack of vibrato and the tone of her voice. She can hit those high notes but since they’re higher than where her tessitura, they’re not her strongest notes. Also, I’d recommend songs that are far from what Shake It Off is. So, The Black Dog, Cowboy Like Me, Exile, The 1, Ivy & Cruel Summer.”

Some Taylor Swift fans don’t see her as a vocalist 

While fans enjoy Swift’s voice, many admitted that it could be impossible to compare her voice to other pop singers’. 

“I don’t think you’ll be able to convince them cuz they usually mean she can’t sing like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston etc,” one person wrote. “She has an amazing voice and CAN sing of course but there’s no use trying to convince naysayers. She’s first and foremost a songwriter anyway.”

Her fans saw her strengths as a storyteller. They don’t believe she needs to hit incredibly high notes in order to pack emotional resonance into her songs. 

“She’s not the top of the line as a singer. And that’s perfectly okay,” another person said. “She can sing well enough for hours on end. Sure Adele is technically better but she also has issues going on tour for long periods of time due to her singing style.”

She recalled one less-than-stellar vocal performance

Swift has dedicated herself to vocal lessons but she, like most singers, has had bad days. When she performed with Stevie Nicks at the 2010 Grammys, she was noticeably off-key. Swift admitted her nerves got the better of her that day.

“I had a bad night,” she told Rolling Stone in 2012. “It’s one of those things where you’ve rehearsed over and over and when the camera turns on, the nerves kick in and you just can’t think straight.”

While Swift faced a great deal of criticism for the performance, Nicks still holds her in high regard.
