Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry spent time together after she stopped in Montréal on her Lifetimes tour. Perry ended her relationship with actor Orlando Bloom this summer, and the former Canadian Prime Minister separated from his wife in 2023. On July 30, Trudeau attended Perry’s concert at the Bell Centre in Montréal. Perry’s fans noticed him dancing along to “Teenage Dream,” seemingly alone. Tarot and relationship expert Sunaree Ko from TarotCards said Trudeau’s attendance at the concert goes beyond just being a fan of Perry’s music.

“This isn’t just about enjoying live music,” Ko said. “Trudeau’s choice of artist, and the public nature of it, screams emotional rebranding. In tarot, this moment mirrors the Star card: healing, hope, and a bold step into renewed self-expression.”

Ko believes Trudeau saw the concert as a cathartic release after separating from his wife. 

“Katy Perry’s catalogue is full of anthems about resilience, self-worth, and starting fresh. For someone freshly divorced, this is a symbolic reset,” Ko said. “Whether calculated or cathartic, it’s his way of saying: ‘I’m still standing.’”

Ko, who specializes in post-breakup readings and relationship energy shifts, said Trudeau likely resonated with Perry’s songs.

“Many people think healing has to be quiet. But some recover out loud. This is a reminder that you can turn heartbreak into high-vibe PR, especially if you pick the right soundtrack.”

Another explanation for Trudeau’s attendance at the concert could have been his reported interest in Perry herself. They were spotted out together in Montréal on several occasions.

“They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” a source told People. “She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common.”

The source added that Perry and Trudeau have bonded over music. They also share an optimistic outlook on life.

“Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult.”

While they may not jump into a relationship straight away, the source said the potential for something is there. 

“Their own personal responsibilities could make this relationship move slower than it would, but there are ways to see the other and still fulfill their parenting responsibilities,” the source said. “For one thing, they each have an ex. So, duties are split in half. And long-distance relationships, while still hard, are possible for these two.”

She recently ended her engagement to Orlando Bloom

Perry is free to pursue a romance with Trudeau now that her engagement to Bloom has ended. They reportedly split early this year and announced it over the summer.

“Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting,” their rep told Us Weekly in July. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”
