The Pitt emerged victorious at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, securing the title of Best Television Drama. This accomplishment saw it surpass notable contenders such as The Diplomat, Pluribus, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus. The series’ showrunner, R. Scott Gemmill, accepted the prestigious award in the company of co-producers John Wells and Noah Wyle. Notably, Wyle had already clinched the Golden Globe for Best Male Actor in a Television Drama earlier in the evening. In his acceptance speech, Gemmill paid tribute to the dedicated team behind The Pitt and underscored the importance of art in fostering unity and decency among people.
Throughout the awards season, The Pitt‘s first season has consistently claimed top honors, including Emmy Awards for Best Drama, Best Lead Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, as well as a recent Critics Choice Award. This impressive track record established the series as a favorite for the Golden Globes, even amidst the rising acclaim for Apple TV+’s Pluribus. Interestingly, just before The Pitt‘s triumph, Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn earned her first Golden Globe for her outstanding performance.
In his speech, Gemmill expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are incredibly fortunate to work with such an amazing team every day. Our crew, writers, producers, and the entire cast are simply the best. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to first responders and healthcare workers, who are the true heroes inspiring us all.”
Gemmill also took a moment to acknowledge civil servants, in a nod to The Diplomat‘s showrunner, and reflected on the broader significance of The Pitt‘s success.
“We find ourselves in a world and a nation marked by division,” Gemmill remarked. “But I believe that cinema — and I include TV as cinema — has the power to unite us, not just as viewers but as a community.”
“We show people what we can do when a bunch of individuals, hundreds of us, have a common goal and we work together with decency and humanity, and just acceptance and respect for each other. And we can do amazing things.”
Gemmill capped off his speech by thanking his fellow artists in the room: “The stories you tell, they make a difference, so thank you so much.”
The Pitt Season 2 just premiered last Thursday and HBO Max has already renewed the show for a third season.
The Pitt Season 2 Episode 2 will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, January 15 at 9 PM ET.
