Timothee Chalamet was spotted in character as Bob Dylan while filming scenes for A Complete Unknown in Mountainside, New Jersey on Monday afternoon.

The 28-year-old performer appeared to be performing several songs at a music festival as he worked on the upcoming biographical drama feature.

The Dune star – who has not split from Kylie Jenner – was also joined by Monica Barbaro, who played songwriter and Dylan’s former partner Joan Baez.

Chalamet was costumed in a blue denim shirt worn under a vintage jacket, and his look for the day was completed with a pair of jeans.

Barbaro, 33, wore a multicolored and patterned shirt as she worked on the upcoming film.

A Complete Unknown is based on Elijah Wald’s book Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties, which was originally published in 2015.

The feature will be centered on a younger version of the Hurricane singer as he grows as an artist during the early days of his career.

The 82-year-old performer’s unexpected switch to an electrically amplified sound and the subsequent controversy will also be covered in the film.

Development on the project was initially revealed to the public in January of 2020, when it was revealed that Chalamet had signed on to star in the film.

In addition to leading the feature’s cast, the Call Me By Your Name star also serves as one of the project’s producers.

At the same time, it was announced that James Mangold, who co-wrote the movie’s script alongside Jay Cocks, would helm the film.

A Complete Unknown will also feature the talents of an ensemble cast that includes the likes of Elle Fanning, Nick Offerman and Edward Norton.

Although filming was initially scheduled to kick off last year, production was delayed due to the onset of the 2023 entertainment industry strikes.

Mangold spoke about A Complete Unknown during an interview with IndieWire, where he revealed that he had personally consulted Dylan while working on the movie.

‘I’ve spent several, wonderfully charming, days in his company, just one-on-one, talking to him. I have a script that’s personally annotated by him and treasured by me,’ he said.

The filmmaker went on to state that he felt as if Dylan’s switch to electrified music had modern-day implications.

‘It all has tremendous relevance even now because of the way we are all so tribalized with rules about what our music should be, about what our rules are, how we speak, how we express ourselves,’ he stated.
