In addition to Harrison and Helen, season 2 of Taylor Sheridan’s drama series will star Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Michelle Randolph, Sebastian Roché, Timothy Dalton and Jennifer Carpenter.

The Plot of Season 2 of ‘1923’ Has Been Revealed

In a press release, Paramount revealed that tensions were likely to rise more than ever before for the characters in season 2.

“In the second season of 1923, a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob (Ford) and Cara (Mirren) back at Dutton ranch,” a press release revealed ahead of the premiere. “With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer (Sklenar) embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra (Schlaepfer) sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.”

Julia also teased the upcoming plot of season 2 about her character Alex’s love story with Spencer after they faced major obstacles in season 1.

“There’s a darker quality to the season for everyone. Everyone’s really in survival mode, so the adventures that she finds herself on are less romantic and less about this love story, and they’re more about fighting to return to that love. It is a tough season, but it is an epic one, for sure,” she told ScreenRant in a February 2025 interview.

Will There Be a Season 3 of ‘1923’?

There have been conflicting reports about whether or not 1923 will get a season 3. During a Q&A session with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, Brandon said that it was not likely that there would be a third season.

“No, no, it’s bookend. It’s still limited, but I think of it as one piece — there’s just a split in the middle, but it’s all one piece. It will conclude,” he said. “Basically, think of season 2 as more of a Part 2, with a Part 3 being unlikely at this time.”

Despite the confusion, fans are thrilled to have film legend Harrison and company back for season 2.

Taylor previously revealed how he pitched the show to the Star Wars actor during a visit to the Yellowstone creator’s Texas ranch.

“He flew down. I said, we’re going to do this thing together. He goes, can I read a script? I said, you can when it’s written, but it ain’t written yet and you got to commit to it now. I need to know who I’m writing for,” Taylor said in a video shared by Deadline in I’m done wondering who I’m writing for, and I have to go try to chase the person I had in my mind and I can’t get the person because they’re doing some f–king Netflix show. I don’t do that s–t anymore.”

“So, are you going to do it or are you going to watch Chris Cooper do the next great thing? What do you want to do? I poured about two bottles of wine down him. He said yes. I got him on the plane as fast as I could, closed the deal and said, send me the next one. Then came Helen, and same thing. Have a glass of wine.”
