Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, has died. The death of the Pitt family matriarch, just shy of her 85th birthday, was announced on Instagram in a touching tribute by her granddaughter, Sydney Pitt. Sydney Pitt is the daughter of Pitt’s brother, Doug Pitt. Since the announcement, Jane Etta Pitt’s legacy and her dedication to her career and community have been heavily discussed. While Jane might be best known to the masses as Brad Pitt’s mother, in Missouri, she was an important community member for her entire life. She started her life in the state and never really left.

Where did Jane Pitt and William Pitt live?

While the Pitt family was spread across the United States, Jane and William Pitt maintained their residence in Springfield, Missouri, where they raised their family and were important pillars in the community. Prior to settling in Springfield, the duo lived in St. Louis, Missouri, and Shawnee, Oklahoma, though the couple considered Springfield their home. William Pitt ran a business in the city. Jane was a lifelong Missouri resident, having been raised in Joplin. While she and her husband did travel with family, including their famous son, they always returned to Missouri.

The Springfield News-Leader notes that she passed away peacefully in Springfield. It is unknown if she died in the home she shared with her husband or if she passed while being cared for at a nursing facility or hospital. The obituary did thank the Phoenix Home Health staff for their dedication over the past year. The company provides in-home healthcare and hospice care.  

Brad Pitt was spotted on set the day of his mother’s death

Several Pitt family members still resided close to Jane Pitt. Doug Pitt still calls Missouri home. Still, Brad Pitt has spent most of his adult life living in Los Angeles. That was where he was on August 5, too. The same day that his mother died in Missouri, Brad Pitt was spotted on set in Gardena, California.

According to the Daily Mail, Pitt was seen looking downtrodden on the set of The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth. The flick, which was announced in April, is the much-hyped sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Pitt is reprising his role as Cliff Booth. He won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the character in 2020.
