Much like the Democratic caucus in Congress, the panelists on The View are split on whether they will watch President Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, February 24th.
During a discussion on whether Democrats should attend or boycott Trump’s SOTU speech, Whoopi Goldberg revealed she won’t be watching live.
“I’m planning to watch Bob’s Burgers tonight and I’ll catch the highlights later,” she shared with her co-hosts.
Goldberg explained further, “We have to take in so much information all the time. I need to reserve my evenings for myself, so Bob’s Burgers it is.”
On the other hand, Joy Behar had a different take. “With this snowstorm, I need a good laugh, so I’ll be watching,” she said.
Later in their discussion, Goldberg maintained that she was not interrupting her peaceful night to listen to the State of the Union address.
“For me, because of the work that we do everyday, where we have to know everything he’s been saying, I’m keeping my night for myself,” she told her co-hosts.
“So, I will find out what he says on the news tonight because I don’t want to just take it anymore. I don’t like just sitting there taking it,” she complained.
Meanwhile, conservative guest host Amanda Carpenter noted she will also be tuning in.
“I’m going to be watching it because I’m really curious to see how he handles spinning the brutal ICE tactics that he’s been using in places like Maine and Minnesota,” she said, adding that she hopes the Democrats in attendance take a stand against Trump.
“I need them to match that energy of the people who are in the streets,” she said of Democrats.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
