Aiken Police Arrest Senior Citizen for Animal Cruelty; Rescue 40 Abused Animals

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. () – A 61-year-old man has been taken into custody in Aiken County, facing allegations related to the mistreatment of animals, as stated by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Joe Clemmons was apprehended and subsequently booked into the Aiken County Detention Center on July 24. According to online records from the ACSO, he faces two counts of ill-treatment of animals.

In the course of the investigation, Aiken County Code Enforcement teamed up with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and the Midland Valley Fire Department. Together, they executed three search warrants in the Wall Street vicinity of Beech Island, S.C.

Authorities reportedly seized a total of 26 dogs, 12 cats, and 2 rabbits during these operations.

The arrest warrants claim that Clemmons confined animals in rooms within his home, leaving them without necessary medical care.

According to the county code enforcement, the investigation remains open and is ongoing.
