Effingham Co. Rallies to Restore Community Post-Wind Damage

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — In the wake of intense storms that swept through Central Illinois early Monday, several communities are still reeling from the damage. Effingham, in particular, has seen significant impact, with a local farm experiencing substantial property destruction.

Among those affected is Dave Koester, whose shed, once a shelter for 24 sheep, has been completely demolished. Koester recounted the moment he and his wife were jolted awake by the sound of the storm, only to find their shed obliterated. Remarkably, this isn’t the first time they’ve faced such devastation.

Just last month, another shed on Koester’s property fell victim to severe weather. Now, the Koester family finds themselves embarking on the challenging task of cleanup once again.

“My son got up at quarter to four for work and informed me that the sheds had collapsed. We had one by the road that went down, and here, the siding with the roof and everything was torn off. It was all moved to the trees, and we had to relocate the sheep by 4 o’clock,” Koester explained.

In addition to the destroyed shed, he also said a tree fell on his roof. Now, he’s working with insurance to assess the damage.

Even though his property is damaged, Koester said all of his sheep are okay.
