AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Marking International Workers’ Day, a demonstration unfolded in downtown Augusta on Friday. The event was a combination of a march and a rally, drawing attention to the significance of the date.

Participants gathered at the judicial center to kick off the rally. Those who organized the event shared insights into their motivations and the causes they aim to highlight through this march.

“What we’re trying to do is merge the labor movement, which has been over severe attack over the past 100 years,” said Daniel Rivera, Co-chair of Augusta DSA. “There was a lot of progress and then it kind of just died down. So, you know, part of this is giving people the education because we have all the social movements that are happening. We know that we need a lot more things that we’re not getting. And we need a safer environment to live in where we can, you know, learn and grow and eat. So we’re trying to we need to blend those two things together. The social movement and the labor movement, because they’re all intertwined.”

The march ended at the RW Allen construction firm on Broad Street.
