Augusta, Ga () Visitors to Riverwalk may know it’s been renamed for former Mayor Ed McIntyre but there’s no evidence of that at the park.
“No, I haven’t seen anything yet but then again, it’s up to them you know how Augusta is,” said longtime resident Ralph Johnson.
Last October commissioners approved renaming the park, so the city had to determine the best place to put the new Riverwalk signs.
“We walked it and tried to figure out hey where can we put this what would be nice what would be visible where do we get the most people,” said Ron Lampkin, Augusta Interim Central Services Director.
The decision was made to put up two signs, one on 8th Street Bulkhead and the other on the Tenth Street bulkhead.
And commissioners have decided what to put up, this is the sign they approved. that will be permanently attached to the bulkheads.
“It won’t be a banner it will actually be laser cut metal letters that’s cut out of metal, and they will be bolted into the brick,” said Lampkin.
The color of the letters will be dark green, commissioners also looked at other options that included city logos in the sign but rejected those.
“But what that would do is shrink the size of the letters and make it less visible,” said Lampkin.
So, approving the sign design now clears the way for the parks’ new named to be displayed.
“I think that’s going to be really nice for Ed man I really do I really do,” said Johnson
But there’s no timeline yet on when the sign will be installed and unveiled in Augusta George Eskola NewsChannel 6.
