AIKEN, S.C. — The Aiken Department of Public Safety has apprehended a man in connection with an Attempted Murder charge.
According to official reports, the individual was located at the Brandt Cort apartments, where authorities attempted to address active warrants against him.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Jaheem Legons, reportedly ignored police commands and proceeded to an apartment upstairs. In a dramatic attempt to evade capture, Legons leaped from a second-floor window and fled through a wooded area, eventually reaching Beaufort Street, where he was finally detained by law enforcement.
Legons faces charges of Attempted Murder and Weapons Possession during a Violent Crime, related to an incident from January 2026.
Details from the January incident reveal that Legons and his brother were involved in a heated argument inside a vehicle. During the altercation, Legons allegedly collided with a gas tank, an ice machine, and a telephone pole before gunshots were fired from within the car.
The victim was found laying next to the car when law enforcement arrived. He trans transported to the hospital with several gunshot wounds.
Legons remains in the Aiken County Jail.
