Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord confirmed that the evacuation was carried out successfully, with all courthouse employees safely exiting the building. The prompt response highlights the effective emergency protocols in place at the courthouse.

ROME, Ga. (WRBL) — The Floyd County Historic Courthouse was evacuated after a fire was discovered in the building around 2:20 p.m. on Monday.

According to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord, all employees inside were safely evacuated.

Crews with the Rome-Floyd County Fire Department were reported on the scene working to contain the blaze. Roads in the downtown area have been blocked, and police evacuated portions of Broad Street.

Officials said that the courthouse was undergoing renovations at the time of the fire. At this time, the cause remains unknown and is under investigation.
