BRANTLEY COUNTY, Ga. — As the persistent fire in Brantley County approaches the three-week mark, officials have released updated containment figures.

Despite the ongoing exceptional drought conditions, progress continues at the Highway 82 fire site, with containment now reaching 90% as of Saturday morning. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against the flames.

Firefighters are diligently patrolling all affected areas to detect and extinguish lingering hot spots. In addition to these efforts, crews are engaged in various rehabilitation activities, including erosion control, the removal of hazardous debris, and implementing stabilization measures to prevent further environmental impact.

Authorities are reminding residents that a burn ban is still in effect across 17 counties in southern Georgia. This includes Brantley, Glynn, Wayne, and Clinch counties, emphasizing the continued risk of fire spread in these regions.

For those looking to support those impacted by the fire, donations can be made through a centralized GoFundMe page dedicated to assisting affected residents. More information about how to contribute is available online.
