BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — An incident involving a man firing at police following threats to his former spouse and her workplace led to his arrest, as confirmed by the Bristol, Tennessee Police Department (BTPD).
On Sunday, authorities detained Ryan Daniel Baer, 49, who hails from Johnson City, according to a statement from the BTPD.
The police were alerted after a call was made just after 3 p.m. A woman reported receiving threatening text messages from Baer.
The news release detailed that Baer allegedly threatened to acquire the caller’s firearm from her home and use it against her workplace.
The BTPD reports it dispatched officers to both the caller’s home and her place of employment. Before officers arrived at the home, 911 received a call about shots fired near the residence.
When officers arrived at the home, they reportedly found the door had been kicked in and the woman’s firearm was missing.
According to the BTPD, officers at the victim’s workplace saw Baer nearby and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Baer allegedly refused to stop, and a pursuit began.
Baer allegedly pointed the gun out the vehicle’s window and fired at officers, the release states.
Baer did eventually pull over and was taken into custody without further incident, the BTPD reports. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident, according to police.
Baer is charged with the following:
- Aggravated burglary
