GRUNDY, Va. (WJHL) — Authorities in Buchanan County are currently investigating the discovery of a deceased woman in the Looney’s Creek area, as reported on Sunday.

The investigation began when the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to an abandoned vehicle. They located a pickup truck, mired in mud along an ATV trail roughly two miles from Old Wolf Road. The vehicle was identified as belonging to Kimberly Christian.

At the time of the discovery, Christian had not been officially reported as missing, according to the sheriff’s office.

A search operation commenced soon after, leading to the discovery of Christian’s body in the vicinity. This was confirmed by the sheriff’s office.

The body has been transported to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

According to the sheriff’s office, a dog that was found inside the truck that appeared to have been without food for an extended period of time was turned over to Buchanan County Animal Control.

The case remains under investigation.
