RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — The much-anticipated sweet corn season has finally arrived in Central Illinois, marking a delightful start for both producers and enthusiasts alike. Thursday heralded the debut day of sales for a well-loved local business in the area.
The Lingley Brothers, a renowned name in Rantoul, witnessed enthusiastic customers lining up around one of their four bustling locations. Their sales team noted that their sweet corn stock was flying off the shelves at an impressive pace.
With outlets in Tilton, Hoopeston, Danville, and Attica, Indiana, the Lingley Brothers have been a staple in the sweet corn business since the 1990s. This year’s yield is expected to be particularly bountiful, offering one of the largest harvests yet, according to crop sellers.
“We’re starting earlier than we usually do. Typically, we kick off around the 11th, which we’ve come to regard as our regular start date,” shared Jenna Kruse, one of the dedicated sweet corn sellers at Lingley Brothers. “This year, we’re ahead of schedule, creating a buzz of excitement among our community. Everyone is thrilled to get their hands on fresh corn sooner than expected.”
Half a dozen ears is $4 and a full dozen is $8. Lingley Brothers will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or until they sell out.
