CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Central High School baseball team has firmly established itself as a powerhouse, boasting a streak of five consecutive regional championships in recent years.
Last season, the Maroons made an impressive run to the super-sectionals, propelled by a thrilling walk-off home run from Luke McClure that secured their sectional title.
This year, Central has kicked off the season with a 5-3 record, aiming to find their rhythm and build momentum for another strong postseason performance.
“Our goal is to succeed in the postseason,” remarked senior Tre Cole. “We focus on staying strong and consistent throughout the season to prepare ourselves for regional play. Winning a regional championship is our objective.”
Junior catcher John Timmons highlighted the importance of leadership, saying, “In past years, we had great leaders like Luke and PK [Patrick Kennedy]. This year, it’s crucial to step up, motivate others during practice, and ensure everyone is committed to improving. That leadership is essential right now.”
