Champaign County Crime Stoppers Calls for Public Assistance in Solving Retail Theft Cases

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Authorities in Champaign County are appealing to the community for assistance in cracking a retail theft case. The local Crime Stoppers are eager for any information that could aid the Champaign Police in their investigation.

The incident occurred at Old Navy, located in Market Place Mall. According to reports, a woman entered the store at 4 p.m. on April 11. She acquired a device designed to deactivate security tags and used it to remove anti-theft devices from several items of clothing. The woman then concealed the garments in a bag and exited the store without making a purchase.

Remarkably, the woman returned to the store just five minutes later and repeated her actions. The estimated value of the stolen merchandise was nearly $600.
