In an effort to enhance community safety this Halloween, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) in Savannah, Georgia, has introduced a new initiative called “Operation Night Watch.” This program is specifically designed to monitor and manage registered sex offenders during the Halloween festivities, ensuring peace of mind for families and children enjoying the holiday.

The operation will focus primarily on “Level 3 Registered Sex Offenders” residing in Chatham County. These individuals are required to report to the CCSO on Halloween night, where they will remain from 6 to 9 p.m., according to a CCSO spokesperson. This measure aims to keep these offenders under supervision during the peak trick-or-treating hours.

In addition to this mandatory reporting, deputies from the Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit will be actively conducting checks on other registered offenders throughout the evening. This dual approach is intended to ensure comprehensive oversight and enhance public safety.

Chatham County is not alone in this endeavor; neighboring counties such as Effingham and Screven are implementing similar programs. These collective efforts across the Coastal Empire underscore the commitment of local law enforcement to protect their communities during the Halloween celebrations.

Several other counties across the Coastal Empire are running similar programs on Halloween night, including Effingham and Screven.
