AUGUSTA, Ga. – A tense standoff in Augusta concluded with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office successfully apprehending a suspect in the 2000 block of Division Street. The incident unfolded after authorities sought to detain an individual linked to a horrific child murder case.
Shortly after midnight, law enforcement officers initiated a search for the suspect, who was wanted in connection with the tragic death of 4-year-old Niomi Rose. As deputies approached, the suspect attempted to escape, sparking a high-speed chase that concluded in the Division Street neighborhood.
Once the chase ended, the suspect took refuge inside a residence, reportedly with potential hostages, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
The situation escalated, leading to the deployment of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, which quickly arrived on the scene to manage the crisis.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene.
After several hours of negotiations, the SWAT Team made entry into the residence, and the suspect was taken into custody.
Richmond County Coroner, Mark Bowen said Niomi was brought to the ER by EMS and was pronounced dead at 12:12 am. She died from blunt force trauma received by an adult, Bowen said.
The suspect’s name has been released
