(NewsNation) — Costco is planning to open a stand-alone gas station in Mission Viejo, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.
The announcement comes after the company expanded its gas stations’ operating hours to 10 p.m. for several of its warehouses earlier this year.
Planning documents show that the project will involve the demolition of a former Bed Bath & Beyond store to make room for the 40 fuel pumps. The gas station will be built about two miles away from an existing Costco warehouse.
The Orange County Register reports that it will be Costco’s largest gas station and the first to stand alone – sorry members, there will be no filling up with a hot dog or pizza at the food court.
As many as nine fuel truck deliveries are expected each day, with more than 9,500 vehicles stopping to fill their tanks between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m.
During a March 6 earnings call, President and CEO Ron Vachris said Costco extended gas station hours in North America during the quarter “to make filling up at Costco more convenient for our members.”
Construction is expected to begin in the fall, and the gas station is expected to open in the spring of 2026.
Nexstar reached out to Costco for additional details but did not immediately receive a reply.
