AUGUSTA, Ga () – 9th through 12th grade students have the opportunity to meet recruiters from more than 100 colleges, universities and technical schools.

This annual event gives them the opportunity to receive scholarships and learn more about where they may want to go after High School.

This event brings in a large crowd every year.

“People get excited about it, it’s a free event for the community so parents, students, you don’t have to pay, parking is free. I think it’s built a reputation since 1993 of really being an asset to our high school students,” said Cindy Hewitt, Senior Education Outreach Specialist at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.

Hewitt tells me she always looks forward to walking around, seeing all the students looking at the hundreds of options at their fingertips.

“Listening to the conversations that they have at the booths, I’ve talked to some of the high school students and they’ll say ‘I really wasn’t thinking about college but I came and now maybe I’ll try that path’ so, it’s just great to see these opportunities for them to give them ideas for their future,” Hewitt said.

I spoke with a student at the event who has been happy with how many colleges he has the chance to speak to.

“Some of the colleges here are pretty good, if you give them a chance and you’re open to any of the colleges you’ll find out that you could go to almost all of these colleges. The main thing is just getting your GPA up, stay good education wise and follow what you want to do,” said Michael Griffin, Senior at Harlem High School.

Griffin tells me he is looking forward to learning more about the colleges athletic and academic programs.
