DANVILLE, Ill. — The Danville Police Department has placed two individuals behind bars following a series of burglaries that have plagued the community over the past two months.
Police officials revealed via Facebook that Tyler Nixon, 29, and Zoeykay Makemson, 35—both residents of Danville—have been accused of orchestrating these burglaries. Though apprehended after two initial break-ins, the pair was subsequently released pending trial, only to allegedly carry out yet another burglary.
With their latest arrest, Nixon and Makemson find themselves in the Vermilion County Jail, as the court has revoked their pretrial release status.
According to police, the duo’s alleged crime spree began on June 16 at the 200 block of W 7th Street. Investigators swiftly identified them as suspects, which prompted an arrest on June 27 during another burglary incident at the same location. Police were alerted once more when a break-in was reported in progress.
“Nixon and Makemson were transported to the Vermilion County Jail and booked on two burglary charges, one for each date listed above,” the DPD said. “After these arrests, both Nixon and Makemson were granted pretrial release and were subsequently released from custody pending further court dates.”
Court records show Nixon and Makemson were due back in court on Monday, but two weeks before that scheduled date, officers responded to another burglary on July 14, this time in the area of Kentucky and Nevada Avenues. Officials said the duo was again identified as the suspects, and they were located on Friday.
Nixon and Makemson were arrested and appeared in court on Monday, as originally planned, but to face new charges of burglary and criminal damage to property. Both were granted pretrial release in the burglary on Kentucky Avenue, but their pretrial release was revoked in the June burglaries on 7th Street. They will remain in custody unless the judge orders otherwise in the future.
Neither defendant has entered a plea in the first burglary case, but they did plead not guilty in the second case. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 10.
