CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illini football team is shaping up their Class of 2027, with a promising tight end eager to dedicate himself to the game.
Central Iowa’s own Cade Newman made his commitment to the Illini public in early June. His decision was influenced significantly by tight ends coach Jared Elliott and head coach Bret Bielema. Newman expressed that Illinois offers the perfect setting for him to excel alongside fellow driven athletes.
“I’m not here to chase numbers or rankings,” Newman stated. “My goal was to play in the Big Ten, and I’m confident I can thrive in one of the top football conferences. Coach Elliott recognizes my potential, and I’m excited about the development process he has planned for me. I’m not focused on chasing jerseys or accolades; I’m focused on putting in the hard work.”
Newman also mentioned that current Illini player Grant Beerman was a significant influence during his recruitment journey.
