Estill Police Arrest Suspect in Double Shooting Incident

ESTILL, Ga. — The Estill Police Department (EPD) has apprehended a suspect linked to a double shooting that took place on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, 23-year-old Deauntay Williams, Jr., turned himself in peacefully and was quickly detained following the incident, the EPD reported. The shooting occurred around 1:00 p.m. near the intersection of Tuten Boulevard and Clarke Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Eyewitnesses recounted that a confrontation erupted among a group of young people, during which Williams allegedly produced a handgun and shot the two victims.

Chief Chauncey Solomon was en route to the location when he received a phone call from a woman claiming to be the mother of one of the individuals involved. She informed Chief Solomon that her son was at her home and intended to surrender to authorities.

Emergency Medical Services swiftly arrived at the scene, transporting both victims to Hampton Regional Medical Center for treatment. Police have stated that both individuals are expected to survive their injuries.

While Chief Solomon strongly condemns the violence that occurred today, he commends the suspect’s mother for her “courageous and responsible” decision to contact law enforcement.

“If more parents took this kind of responsible action when their children become involved in criminal activity, our communities would experience far less of the violence that causes so much suffering,” Chief Solomon said.

Sheriff Anthony Russell and the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office assisted EPD. This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
