SAVANNAH, Ga. () — This weekend, the public has a unique opportunity to step aboard and explore a United States Coast Guard barque at no cost, located on River Street.

This majestic 295-foot sailing vessel has been a cornerstone in training cadets at the Coast Guard Academy since 1946, having originally been claimed as a prize following World War II.

Known as the Eagle, the barque plays a crucial role in preparing future officers. Cadets spend a minimum of six weeks onboard, honing essential skills in seamanship, navigation, and leadership.

Currently embarked on a 106-day journey along the Eastern Seaboard, the cutter will be docked in Savannah through Sunday.

Visitors can enjoy complimentary tours on Friday, May 8, as well as Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, during the periods specified below:

  • Friday, May 8 (2 – 7 p.m.)
  • Saturday, May 9 (10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
  • Sunday, May 10 (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

No tickets are required. The Eagle is moored near the World Apart Monument on River Street.
