SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Savannah native and Louisiana State University (LSU) women’s basketball star Flau’Jae Johnson was injured in the fourth quarter of the Tigers’ win over North Carolina State in the Women’s NCAA Regional Semifinal on Friday, March 28.

With just over five minutes remaining in the contest, Johnson had the ball stolen from her. While trying to retrieve the loose ball, she and N.C. State player Zoe Brooks dove to the floor. Johnson was whistled for her third foul.

Johnson stayed down on the floor while trainers came to assist her. She walked off the floor under her own power while holding her eye. ESPN’s Holly Rowe reported later in the broadcast that Johnson’s eye was beginning to swell.

With under two minutes remaining, Johnson walked to the scorer’s table appearing to try to check back into the game, but she did not re-enter the ball game.

After the game, our sister station KOIN was in the locker room attempting to speak with the Savannah native.

“Flau’ Jae was in there at the beginning but was clearly emotional. They asked us to back away from her for a second. She then packed all her stuff up and walked out with a boot on. So unfortunately, no Flau’Jae sound,” Brenna Greene with KOIN wrote in an email to .

After the game LSU head coach Kim Mulkey was asked about the status of Flau’Jae.

“I didn’t see it,” Mulkey said. “I don’t know if she got poked in the eye. I don’t know. I just know I was getting ready to put her back in the game and I turned around and they said they won’t let her go back in the game because she’s seeing double like double vision a little bit.”

Flau’Jae’s status for the Regional Final on March 30 is unknown.

The game started at 7:30 p.m., in Spokane, Wash. at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. LSU won, 80-73.
