DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Jacardia Wright’s football journey has taken him from college teams such as Kansas State and Missouri State to the professional level with the Seattle Seahawks this past season.
Hailing from St. Teresa, Wright reached a new pinnacle as he became a Super Bowl champion, having been elevated to Seattle’s active roster by week three of the season.
On July 10, he organized an inspiring event at the Lincoln Square Theater, aiming to motivate the younger generation to pursue their aspirations.
“Honestly, just be confident in everything you want to do and don’t let your zip code dictate where you want to go in your life,” Wright advised. “It’s a big world out there, and just keep working hard and doing everything you can, and possibly just make it to the top for sure.”
In 2018, Wright was named the WCIA 3 Football Player of the Year and stands as one of the most celebrated running backs in IHSA state history. His impressive record includes being second in career rushing yards (8,821), rushing touchdowns (133), and third in points scored (330). Remarkably, his 55 total touchdowns as a senior remains a state record.
