ATLANTA (WRBL) — Georgia’s Attorney General, Chris Carr, has launched an investigation into Roblox, a widely-used online gaming platform, following alarming reports of child exploitation.
The Office of the Attorney General highlights that Roblox is a virtual space where millions of children and teenagers across the United States interact and socialize.
The investigation aims to assess whether Roblox is in violation of child protection laws and potentially endangering the safety of young users, according to Attorney General Carr.
“Predators are targeting our children through online platforms like Roblox, and we are taking action,” stated Carr. “As both a father and the Attorney General, safeguarding children is my utmost priority. Companies that fail to protect them will be held responsible.”
Authorities have reported multiple incidents involving sexual exploitation and child abuse linked to Roblox. Earlier this year, the Georgia State Patrol successfully located two missing girls from Florida who had been lured by a 19-year-old they met on the platform.
The suspect, from Nebraska, now faces kidnapping and additional charges.
In a 2023 incident, an adult pressured a 12-year-old boy into sending explicit images.
Regarding the investigation, Carr has also sent Roblox a Civil Investigative Demand to receive any necessary information and documents concerning child safety.
