FIFA President Gianni Infantino is embroiled in controversy, as leading soccer federations, including UEFA, CONCACAF, and the AFC, have condemned his proposal to commercialize a stake in the World Cup, labeling it a “fundamental breach of trust” with FIFA’s core constituencies.

A fervent “open letter to the football family,” released on Monday, saw UEFA, CONCACAF, and the AFC collectively rebuke Infantino’s move. The letter underscores that “once trust is shattered by deceit, particularly when an individual prioritizes personal authority over the collective good, the responsibility entrusted has been forsaken.”

These influential bodies preside over soccer in different regions: UEFA supervises European soccer, CONCACAF manages the sport across North, Central America, and the Caribbean, while the AFC is responsible for soccer affairs in Asia.
