Governor Pritzker Showcases Film Industry Triumphs in Champaign County During Rantoul Visit

RANTOUL, Ill. — On a vibrant Wednesday, the Governor of Illinois made a noteworthy visit to Rantoul, shining a spotlight on the flourishing film industry in the region.

Governor JB Pritzker, alongside the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and various local dignitaries, gathered at Flyover Film Studios. The occasion was a celebration of the burgeoning film production sector in Central Illinois, highlighting its pivotal role in the local economy.

In 2025, film productions were a significant economic driver, generating $12.3 million in statewide business sales. This influx of capital was attributed to extensive spending across multiple sectors, including hotels, catering, transportation, rental housing, equipment vendors, and post-production services. The result was a notable boost to Illinois’ gross domestic product by nearly $8 million, alongside $1.61 million in wages for Illinois households.

Governor Pritzker, in a statement, lauded Champaign County as a leader in the state’s expanding entertainment landscape. “Champaign County is at the forefront of our state’s expanding entertainment industry, one that continues to spur innovation, creativity, and positive economic impacts,” he remarked. He credited pioneers like Flyover Film Studios for positioning Illinois as a prime location for film production, warmly inviting writers, producers, and creative talents to bring their cinematic visions to life in the state.

Flyover Film Studios operates out of the former Chanute Airforce Base. In its time as a studio, the grounds have been used to film everything from a tornado documentary to a heavy metal music video.

In 2025, Flyover Film Studios was named the 2025 Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year.

We understand the importance of education as we grow the film industry in Central Illinois. We are fully committed to high quality work and to training future leaders in the industry.

Pritzker’s office added that Central Illinois’ film industry contributed to the state’s overall film ecosystem. Film production expenditures reached $653 million in 2024, which is the second-highest in state history.

Pritzker also pointed to the Film Production Tax Credit as a key factor in Illinois landing major productions. Recently, Chicago was named the third best big city for those who work in the film industry.
