CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – The Illinois women’s basketball team celebrated a significant milestone on Sunday, notching their eighth consecutive victory.
In a spirited contest against North Texas, the Illini emerged victorious with a score of 81-69, marking head coach Shauna Green’s 200th win in her Division I coaching career.
Sophomore standout Berry Wallace led the charge for Illinois, pouring in a personal best of 28 points. The game was notably chaotic, with officials calling a total of 50 fouls and the teams collectively committing 39 turnovers.
Illinois also saw strong performances from Gretchen Dolan, who contributed 19 points, and Maddie Webber, who added 16 to the tally.
Shooting proved to be a highlight for the Illini, as the team successfully sank 11 of 17 three-point attempts, resulting in an impressive 64.7% success rate. On the defensive end, Illinois held North Texas to a 40% shooting performance from the field.
Illinois improved to 10-1 on the season with the victory. Up next: The Illini host Jackson State on Friday, Dec. 19.
