ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Friends of the Elizabethton-Carter County Animal Shelter (FECCAS) hosted its 3rd annual “Happy Tails 5k” run and 1k walk on Sunday to raise money to build its low-cost spay/neuter clinic.
Fundraising Director Danny Deal told News Channel 11 that a spay/neuter clinic is vital to the community, as he said it’s the key to animal wellbeing.
“Well, the main thing about animal welfare: the only way to control the population is spay and neuter, and with this facility, [it] is to provide local spay and neuter for all pet owners,” he said. “And we’ll help assist the shelter in being able to spay and neuter these dogs and cats that are coming in.”
Deal said the organization already had 157 people registered coming into event day, and more were lining up to participate as he spoke.
